Since the beginning of 2023, Igor Ponosov made several attempts to relocate to Europe as an artist and writer. The bureaucracy in Germany and France proved equally daunting, he says: „Each time, I had to submit additional documents and photos to new authorities."

Over time, Ponosov began working with the aesthetics of bureaucracy, which had become part of his daily life. The immigration office in Berlin, the prefecture in Strasbourg and other institutions demanded new forms, paperwork, and – of course – photographs. Everything had to meet strict standards, which inspired the poster he created.
It’s based on an original German informational poster about photo requirements, which the artist encountered at a Berlin migration office. In his work, he deliberately broke every of those rules – an attempt to preserve his identity in the face of a bureaucratic machine that seeks to homogenize and erase individuality. That poster marked the starting point of the bureaucratic adventure.
